St Ives harbour is less familiar from this seaward side. The harbour wall was extended- and from this viewpoint the end of the old harbour may be distinguished.
Provenance A visitor to the gallery recently observed that the composition is such as to suggest a great ship. There is a resemblance to a large beached vessel, enhanced by the line of the wall to the right (the bow)and to the left (the stern). The partially visible masts are placed to contribute to the effect.
